I agree with the "takes up space" and "looks terrible" statement. I disagree with the "doesn't accomplish anything" statement.
There's a difference between present a coherent argument for a change and jumping up and down screaming about something you don't like. The former can be productive; the latter is useless to a large degree.

Gun Pierson's thread is a good example.

Speaking as someone who has worked in community management, I can promise you that is nothing more than a common misconception.

QQing, rage posts, useless non-constructive whining do nothing but destroy the signal:noise ratio. It makes it a lot harder to find the calm, intelligent, well reasoned posts that actually matter. No developer in their right mind ever makes a change as a kneejerk to forum outrage, it should always be as a reaction to coherent, compelling feedback.

A community manager can't just say "Hey, this update isn't going down well with the community, we need to do something about that", they need to present reports with clear reasoning and justifications. The harder it is to filter out the good content for that report, the less they will rely on that community for feedback.

Exactly. But the problem we have here that people who disagree with changes and voice their opinion are lumped into the QQ category. There's too much "if you don't agree then quit" attitude. That's far more useless than simply bemoaning the loss of a favorite build etc. Even an "Anet blows!" serves a purpose. It shows that people are dissatisfied. Upsetting the majority of your customer base is NOT good.

Allow me to give an example. I use my monk as my title RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO. I started play after NF but before EotN. I was excited about the release of EotN because I now had the chance to get in on the action from the beginning. I began working on raising my rep in order to take full advantage of the rep-based skills introduced in EotN. Me and a guildie, using 3 heroes each vanquished all of EotN. Grind, grind, grind. But it was fun. After achieving Legendary, I was pretty much done with EotN. There was simply NOTHING left to do other than farm. I took a long break from it and went back to the campaigns to work on other things. Occasionally a guildie (or more) would be bored and would suggest doing a CoF run. I'd load a 600 or 16/16 build and join up for the heck of it. We'd chat, and joke, and laugh. It was fun to do. Nobody was getting rich. 2 people could run the dungeon in roughly 40minutes. I can still h/h it in about 45 minutes so the 600 didn't save enough time to even be considered a "speed run." And since nobody wants a Ruby Djinn Polymock piece anymore, the rewards are not in line with the effort/time.

This latest update made me sad. It seems to me that the vocal minority were the ones that were guilty of the QQ in the first place and have absolutely no grounds to mock or censor those who say "enough of the bull!" Surely I'm not the only one that finds it ironic that those who cry for change turn around and tell those who don't like the change to "quit playing." And the pot said to the kettle, "What the hell you just call me?!"

The insults and name-calling (on both sides of an argument) are what needs to be censored because it's counter-productive and makes the guilty parties look ignorant and immature.

I agree that SF should have been nerfed to a reasonable level of effectiveness. 600 was already nerfed and there was no need for further tweaking much less another nerf. But here we are... a week later... and SF is being used now more than ever. Everyone should QQ about it.

You presume too much. Forums are not the majority of the customer base. Neither are farmers.

I'm sorry... I must have mislead you. I said the majority of their customers. This forum (as well as a few others) is mild in comparison to the voices I've heard in the game chat. It was certainly not my intent to knock the job that the mods are doing here. Please don't ban me!
